Reason guides, but the hand performs. The master’s hand is his signature.
The panel depicts the working hands of craftsmen from various fields engaged in their work without tools – without extensions of the hand. The hand models are primarily students, faculty, artists, and masters from the Estonian Academy of Arts Sculpture Department on Raja Street, as well as the authors of the artwork.
The hand, as a standalone symbol, is rich in meaning. Even the oldest cave drawings depict not cattle or humans, but handprints. The hand remains a source of meditative activity, sometimes a means of playfulness, but mostly a mediator.
