Everyone needs sleep. Without it, survival is impossible. Dreams are reportedly experienced by all mammals, and no one knows why. Sleep, dreaming, daydreaming, fantasizing, and other related activities are essential actions that never cease and are directly connected to memory and remembering. In front of an educational and accommodation building, where learning and sleeping primarily take place, a large concrete pillow serves as the archetype of peace and security.
The giant concrete pillow suggests the importance of rest and the dream-like nature of life because “more complex forms of behavior develop on an increasingly ‘resting’ foundation. The need to rest is a basic human need and is so crucial that one feels alive based on it” (Kalevi Kull, “Theoretical biology” (2019)).
The test pillow installed in Nõva Harbor in 2021.
